ASM – «Aktueller Software Markt» returns with a new German annual edition to mark its 40th anniversary
A legend of the German gaming press celebrates a successful comeback: reviews of contemporary retro software, interviews from within the scene, and a look back at four decades
Sangenstedt, 25. October 2026
The legendary German computer and gaming magazine «ASM – Aktueller Software Markt» is back. This new annual edition celebrates ASM’s 40th anniversary and, as always, provides a comprehensive overview of the current retro software market.
First published in March 1986, ASM established itself during the late 1980s and early 1990s as one of the most influential multi-format magazines in the German-speaking world. It chronicled the golden age of the C64, Amiga, Atari ST, ZX Spectrum, and many other systems, and it continues to enjoy cult status within the retro community today. Following its discontinuation in 1995 and a long hiatus, ASM has been back in publication since 2023—driven by a team of retro enthusiasts and featuring contributions from former editors. The current issue brings together the best of both worlds:
* Reviews of contemporary retro software for classic 8-bit and 16-bit systems
* A special focus on 40 years of ASM, featuring retrospectives, personal stories, and a tribute to the magazine’s history
* Interviews with key figures and eyewitnesses from the retro scene
* Classic, long-standing columns presented in the original, chaotic ASM style, alongside brand-new content
«ASM was never just a magazine—it was a piece of living computer culture. We are thrilled to be able to present an issue for our 40th anniversary that captures the spirit of the original editions, combined with fresh reviews and voices from the scene,» the editorial team states.
The new issue is available as a German-language print magazine (100 pages; price: 9 euros; poster: 1 euro, plus shipping).

The 2023 edition of ASM is sold out in print.
A limited number of copies of the 2024 and 2025 editions are still available.
